Identifying and securing sustainable funding is a critical part of successfully implementing HealthySteps, an evidence-based, team-based care model that provides early childhood development and behavioral health support to families in pediatric primary care settings. The HealthySteps National Office developed a new webpage with resources to support sustainable funding for HealthySteps sites across the country. These resources can also be used by non-HealthySteps providers looking to secure funding and reimbursement for the provision of dyadic, team-based, and/or integrated care in pediatric primary care settings.

The sustainability resources are organized into four categories with several open-access materials:

  • Billing and Coding: Includes a list of updated billing and coding opportunities, a guide about the common pitfalls that lead to medical claim denials and rejections, a guide about the medical coding and documentation requirements for family psychotherapy services, social determinants of health Z-codes, health and behavior assessment and intervention codes, and tips for implementing a newly published medical billing code.
  • State-Specific Resources: Includes billing, coding, and payment resources tailored for select states.
  • Making the Business Case: Includes an overview and one-page handout of the short-term Medicaid cost-savings that HealthySteps interventions drive.
  • Other Resources: Includes recommended financing opportunities to support integrated behavioral health promotion and prevention services and an overview of the Alternative Payment Model framework for HealthySteps.
