The Cross-Sector Engagement Tool helps early childhood leaders identify, prioritize, and engage the partners needed to advance systems change. Whether building a new coalition, launching an initiative, or strengthening an existing project, the tool provides a structured way to map relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Designed for use at both the state and community levels, the tool helps teams assess current partnerships, identify mutual benefits, and anticipate potential obstacles. Teams are encouraged to begin with a small group of 3-7 partners and expand relationships over time as their work evolves.

What’s Included

This tool includes a fillable worksheet to help teams identify cross-sector partner engagement:

  • Identify organizations and entities relevant to their work.
  • Assess the current level of engagement with each partners.
  • Determine the value each partnership brings to both organizations.
  • Identify potential obstacles.
  • Track notes, such as priorities or next steps for collaboration.

The worksheet includes examples of partners from across the early childhood ecosystem, including family-support and community-based organizations, state and local programs, health care providers, and other stakeholders. Partnerships should be customized to reflect each team’s community and priorities.
