Well-child visits play a critical role in identifying concerns that require follow-up care and, in early childhood, include essential preventive services. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is launching a new webinar series, Improving Preventive Care in Early Childhood. The series will focus on opportunities for state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) programs to improve the delivery of developmental and lead screenings, immunizations, and early oral health interventions during early childhood well-child visits.

The webinars will be followed by an action-oriented affinity group. The webinar dates, times, and themes are as follows:

  • January 6, 2025, 2-3 PM ET: Promoting Preventive Care Through Well-Child Visits in Early Childhood
  • March 31, 2025, 2-3 PM ET: Overview of the Improving Preventive Care in Early Childhood Affinity Group and Expression of Interest Process
  • April 14, 2025, 2-3 PM ET: Addressing Barriers to Well-Child Visits and Preventive Care: Promising Approaches to Transportation in Medicaid and CHIP
  • May 5, 2025, 2-3 PM ET: State Medicaid and CHIP Experiences Promoting Preventive Care Through Well-Child Visits in Early Childhood

More About the Improving Preventive Care in Early Childhood Webinar Series

Participants will hear from CMS, state Medicaid and CHIP programs, and subject matter experts on approaches to promote preventive care through well-child visits and address barriers to care. CMS invites all interested staff from state Medicaid and CHIP programs, along with their Medicaid and CHIP managed care plans, pediatric providers, public health agencies, and other quality improvement partners.
